My issue at hand is I want to set an enable password for said privilege level. Well in their infinite "we know better than you", that option was completely removed in 10, no local parental control option at all so your 2 year old must have a Microsoft email account for you to put limits on the machine. Finally found, well sort of, that the Parental Control options in 7 and 8 got really close to working like Steady State, with a couple of GOP's it would work. Updates to Windows and Anti-virus programs were the only exceptions. They could do whatever they wanted to the PC, yet a simple reboot put the PC back exactly the way it was before. When the PC was rebooted, the computer would simply discard the cache and boot from the protected partition. The "Windows Disk Protection (WDP)" was simple - every change to the hard drive was contained in a cache partition. It was somewhat akin to offering a new car to replace the old car, and including every feature and option except tires on the rims. 
*That* was the piece I found most helpful when setting up public computers. They offered no alternative for "Windows Disk Protection". I remember when Microsoft dropped SteadyState and offered GPOs that accomplished "90%" of SteadyState's goals.īut that last 10% was, in my opinion, the piece that made it all worthwhile.
